Bongo Fury

As the title.
This seems to be fairly common in N America with an adapter to fit a large gas bottle to a screw in canister. The two bottles are connected together and the big bottle is tipped upside down. The liquid simply flows under gravity from the bottle into the canister.
We use the screw in canisters on the Cadac but it works out quite expensive.
Has anyone seen an adapter here to do this??

Let me know if you get an adaptor and have a go, so that I can make sure I'm nowhere nearby.

Let me know when you are doing it so I can run the other way, its just not worth the risk of explosion, how will you know how much room to leave in the tank for expansion?
You can buy adaptors but please dont, just pop to your local Calor type place and ask them about the dangers of refilling your own.

The whole point of a licensed filler is that the agent checks that the cylinder to be filled is suitable, and the cylinder is within it's test period, as stamped on the base, or wherever designated. To refill a cylinder yourself is most definitely illegal, as you require the ability to ensure that the cylinder is only filled to a given point to allow for pressure increase should the cylinder be stored in a hot place or in direct sun (some people ACTUALLY do that )....The refilling therefore needs a licensed operator.
Refilling definitely does go on in Europe...in fact, over here it is quite normal, as every home has gas bottles....and frequently there are problems with inappropriate gas installations....it is also normal to find cylinders being filled on the forecourt at gas or petrol stations....a buzz goes round the village that the police are in the village, so take your bottles later.
The Gaslow cylinders have been around for a long time, and there was a period when they were hard to find....my guess is that there have been problems with filling them during the period which they were on sale. Whether these issues were ever sorted, I have no idea.
It is, of course, possible to sell a setup such as a Gaslow cylinder, but it is illegal to fill it yourself, and I strongly suspect that petrol stations don't have a permit to fill them...or maybe only a few are licenced....so, I expect it's a case of buyer beware!

Like many things in life you will find some one doing it with no idea of the dangers involved, a friend of mines Dad was refilling bottles in a proper company with the proper equipment and one ignited, it was thought to be static from a high viz coat, my mate managed to get his Dad and one other worker out of the fire and the damaged building but his Dad is a changed man not just the physical damage from the burns but mentally he is just not the same bloke and I don't want to appear rude but he will tell you him self. He gets people coming in to his business asking for fittings to refill bottles, he wont sell them and explains why, but he cant stop them just try and educate
Its like when you go out of the UK the safety standards are poor, we are lucky as our safety is quite good in the UK but we still get people peddeling dangerous stuff.

Plenty of videos on utube of it being done, seemingly safely, in the States. Perhaps they just like getting blown up.

Plenty of all sorts on You Tube doing sh*t not all of it legal or sensible tho'

I've heard of a chap who went round drilling holes in car fuel tanks to steal the petrol. He stupidly tried it on an LPG tank and got horrendous burns as the liquid came out & instantly froze as it evaporated. He won't be doing that (or anything) again
