Wanting to fit some plastic trim to rear arches to smarten them up ,and protect against rust. Not wanting to pay silly money for one ,and wonder if the transit ones will fit? Anyone know of a compatible trim that will fit I was looking on ebay and seen some nice looking transit ones for 30 quid and wondr if anybody else had done similar, must be something that will fit with a bit of effort and a heat gun??

Search ebay for 'ford transit tuning wheel arches' as can't post url

cheers paul

There's a brand new pair of genuine Bongo spats for sale on the main BF site. See http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/marketplace.php#bits

I can confirm that transit ones are nowhere near in shape and apart from looking odd you wouldn't be able to open the side door

Thanks guys. I was thinking more like 30 quid than 200 thanks anyway

hijimhere can you elaborate more I.e. what make of mercedes sprinter. Where sourced. How modified if any? How do you fit them? I have no experience. The metals ok apart from some rust surface rust that keeps coming back even through hammerite. When I first got the van I rubbed down to metal and added acid and primer etc all was sucessful apart from a few spots that keep comming through. Plan is to dinitrol it then cover with a bit of plastic for cosmetic so don't want to spend a fortune. Cheers for the help paul

just wondering if you've done anything with your arches yet? i'm presently greasing mine up like mad as i just haven't got a spare minute to have them fixed and the rust is starting to really
show now. i'm even contemplating blowing the £200 on new spats to hide the problem as the rest of the bongo looks great - it's just my crappy arches that let it down :( as someone who doesn't know diddly squat about doing bodywork on a car and haven't got time to take it to someone right now i'm wondering how other drivers are coping with their rusty bits :D

Hi Hwayaden
Can you show some pictures of what rust there is, before we make suggestions?
Cheers
Helen

That looks way beyond what you could cover up with a £300 set of Mazda spats. The trouble with wheelarches is the rot comes from behind so it is much worse than it might appear. For the front wings, I would suggest getting a good 2nd hand pair with no rust as the problem you have is with the seam and no amount of treatment and filling is going to make that go away. For rear arches, the only worthwhile option is to cut out and replace :(.

Hi
I'm afraid I agree with Simon...it needs some cutting and welding, sad to say :(
Cheers
