i have a 1995 turbo diesel,the turbo does not seem to be working could this be because there is not enough transmission fluid in the system as i had to top it up recently after a leak ?

There is no connection between turbo and transmission. Have you checked all the pipework and checked you can spin it manually when the U shaped pipe is disconnected?

No turbo's require oil feed (for lubrication) and air (the air intake pipe is on the left as you look in the engine bay). Exhaust gases are used to "spool up" (rotate/spin) the turbo - why do you think the turbo isn't working?

...and coolant for cooling.

i have checked what i can of the pipework but thats about it--- as for why do i think the turbo is not working when i accelerate hard i do not hear the turbo kicking in.

Have you had the vehicle long and noticed this as a sudden change? The turbo should be spinning all the time & should give a fairly steady boost when the engine is under load. Can you hear it whistling in proportion to the engine revs? If the turbo was not working at all, you'd definitely notice a massive drop in performance.

Made me think - had my Bongo a few weeks now and I've not noticed any lag (should I)? at all on the Turbo, thought it was just the way it should be as went on a 250 mile trip this weekend seem to accelerate fine but no feel of Turbo engagement felt and was pulling 80mph plus with no problem and 3 passengers
So does yours feel heavier and more sluggish than it did before?
what's the mid range pulling like as that's where a Turbo should give you more power with a diesel.
I know with a supercharger you can fit a smaller belt pulley so they spin & engage quicker don't now if you can do similar with a Turbo.

The Bongo does not exhibit any noticeable lag. I also have a twin sequential turbo diesel BMW which has no lag either (because of the twin sequential turbos), and apart from the power differential, they behave largely the same. Decent vehicle, the Bongo.

normally going uphill i could hear and feel the turbo power but i have not felt it do that for a while, i have had my bongo for almost two years--ps. i am not very mechanically minded. thanks for the answers.
