Exhaust Manifold Removal

Hi
Firstly many thanks to all contributors to this forum; I have now managed to change cambelt, water pump, new belts, thermostat, change diff oil, and fix roof all by reference to contributions in the forum...the cambelt and water pump factsheets in members area are especially good.

HOWEVER, I need to remove my exhaust manifold to sort studs out; I also want to remove it entirely so I can get the face skimmed, but I just can't work out how to do it. Various posts on the subject seem to be patchy and conflicting!

I've disconnected the exhaust front pipe and removed the first rusty connection bit, I now want to remove the 2nd rusty connection bit which goes between turbo and exhaust manifold, and then remove the turbo to get access to the lower manifold bolts/studs. I've taken the bolt out of the gold ring bit but can't seem to shift the ring. Nor can I get access to undo the nuts on the back of the 2nd rusty box bit so I'm stuck. I just want the turbo out of the way! Any help would be gratefully received.

Finally, can anyone remember where I put my new rocker cover gasket?

Thanks.....Rob

OK, brute force and ignorance ruled the day........the turbo/exhaust manifold + awkward rusty pipe with unmoveable 35mm nut is now divorced from my Bongo. I really hope I can remarry them OK, when the time comes.

Now it's time to drill out no.1 stud and remove the rest. Whatever happened to Sunday being a day of rest!??

I'm getting an unexplained urge to write a factsheet on how to do this job when I've got a spare year or two.

Is it me, or does it seem that no matter what component you want to work on, it's like they started with this piece on the floor and built the Bongo around it?

Still can't find my rocker cover gasket................Rob
