There's a layby very close on the A36. Not sure if it's OK for overnight, but always seems to be busy with cars and campers. (I travel from Salisbury-ish to Bristol regularly on the A36). It's clearly visible on Google Maps Streetview. Cheers, Dave.

Pay and display car park at Brassknocker Basin, don't think there's any overnight restrictions.

From the museum come down the hill and cross the A36, car park immediately on left.

Not wild camping but a lovely basic campsite: the amusingly-named Merkins Farm   nr Bradford-on-Avon

http://www.merkinsfarm.com/camping/

Only £13 per pitch per night (+£2 for EHU if you want it), super cafe with lovely breakfasts and a nice pub at the end of the lane.
