Bongo Fury

The rear suspension springs don't seam up for the weight of the vehicle. Every time we go over a bump there's a thud as the rear bottoms out. I've put on some towing spring assisters, but they don't help much. It's as though with the camper van conversion furniture, plus water, cycles on the back the vans springs aren't up to it. Are there stronger springs available? or any other advise gratefully received.

I had "air lifters" fitted to my suspension to stop it bottoming out. Also check you don't have lowering springs, I had them fitted to mine. Measure from the ground to the wheel arches they should be about 30". I would recommend ...

Also check your rear drop-links for wear or damage, are your shocks OK, the air assistors will only function correctly if the existing suspension is up to scratch.

I measured road to arch at 29''.
It had been sujested to cut off the rubber buffers, but surely they're there for a reason?

Definitely do not cut off the bump stops!air bags are you're solution my friend .imop

on the back of artic trailers there are (rubber D section rubbers), they use these to stop crap drivers reversing into the loading docks.
i bought a couple of these from a truck part suppliers then made brackets that went through the length of D back to the original holes in the chassis. this gave a softer hit when the suspension reached the top end.
works well after several years of winter log carrying etc. and cheaper than the originals at £40 plus each when the rubbers fall off the back plate.

Bump stops, improved or otherwise, only control the suspension movement at it's extreme and prevent the suspension from banging off of the chassis. Air lifts will effectively stiffen the suspension, improving the handling at all times and keeping the suspension away from the bump stops for the vast majority of the time, which is as it should be.
