Just purchased the outwell country road awning for my Bongo. But don't know what to buy to attach it to my Bongo. I have a auto free top with a ykk canopy awning attached. Any help or places I could get advice much appreciated. I live in Devon Cornwall area.

Unlike Fiamma roll-out awnings, YKK awnings do not have a channel to fit a figure-of-8 attachment to. Also, because the YKK will obscure the guttering on the Bongo, your only secure way of fitting the Country Road is put the roof up, and then secure the Country Road to the two U-brackets that are exposed on the passenger side of the roof.

what should you attach them with? the velcro straps that come with the awning?
Would a figure of 8 work if i cut it to lengths to fit between the ykk brackets?

On the Country Road, on the section (gussett?, tunnel?) that conects the tent to the van, there should be some beading at the end. This is usually threaded on to the figure of 8 channel which then attaches to the guttering on the Bongo. But because you won't have access to the guttering you could try clamping the beading on to the U-clamps on top of the roof.

Ok thank you i will give it a go when it arrives, i didn't know if i should buy some fixing stuff etc. Will this method provide a secure enough fit to a bongo to prevent flapping about in winds etc? Sorry for the silly questions but i have never had a awning before and know v little about them.

Do you have a ykk awning attached? Any chance of a picture?

I seem to remember that the YKK DOES have a channel for the kador strip but it is obscured when the cassette is shut. If you wind it out an inch I am sure that there is one inside the casing on the bit that comes out. A standard 6mm double kador can then be used and attached to figure-of-eight and then the figure=of-eight to the awning. The cassette can then be closed again. We don't have our beloved Bongo anymore so can't look but I am SURE there is an awning channel as per the Fiamma

Sorry no, I no longer have my Bongo. The YKK awning is mounted above the gutter, so there is plenty of room to put the figures of 8 on. If I remember correctly, I just cut down one strip to fit between the brackets and put the other two on the ends - easy

Kador will give a better fit than just figure-of-8 on the gutters

What is kador?
Might try cutting some figure of 8 to attach then just don't want to mess it up.

Kador is the double edged bead strip used to connect the awning to the van via a figure of 8. Standard is 2x6mm bead, for a Fiamma you need 4mm/6mm bead.
The YKK takes standard 6mm Kador as far as I remember. You can't messs it up, it's designed for the job and works a treat.

It makes it quite straight forward to reconnect the van when returning to the awning. Kind of like a zip.

That's interesting where does the kador connect on the ykk?

From memory, as we no longer have our Bongo, open the casing slightly with the winder and I seem to remember that there is a channel in there for the kador to connect.
Memory not what it once was and do tell me if I am wrong but i am sure that is how we connected our awning.
On the Fiamma, there is a channel on the outside of the casing and on the one used by VW on the T5 Cali, there is a channel on the inside of the case.
Let me know if you find it so that I can reassure myself that the dementia isn't setting in yet

I will take a close look and maybe post a picture for you to see, i think you maybe right but im not 100% sure either. Here is one of the awning itself with the roof up but i will take a close up view later to look for the channel for the kador to attach into. Would i buy kador in the exact length as the ykk awning or longer?
