Bongo Fury

Hi All,

Has anyone had a leisure battery fitted in lancashire, nearer to Blackpool area the better.
How much would be reasonable to pay for one. I am just looking for a power supply
to run my gadgets etc when we camp without ELH's being available.

Are you just after the battery or a split-charge system to go with it?

The whole thing really. A bit ignorant of how this all works, so help appreciated.

If your vehicle has never had a liesure battery fitted, you may want to install the battery in the specific location in on the RH side under the bonnet.
This will require a Liesure battery tray kit specific to the bongo, these are redibly avialable. The next thing is to decide what size battery you want to buy. The more power you need the bigger the Amp Hour rating you will need. I would suggest the minimum you should look at would be 85AH. Ensure you buy a battery that is for this purpose, don't be tempted to use a starter battery, starter batteries will work but there are differances (hence the different types). Starter batteries are disigend to give large amounts of current over a very short, ie starting the engine. LB are disigned to give lower currents over a long period, ie a few amps over a weekend.
You will then need a method of keeping the battery charged for use, wich is a split charge kit (quite easy to wire in, if you get the willinton kit it comes with good instructions) that is wired into the vehicle and will charge the battery whilst the engine is running using the vehicles own alternator. Onced this is all installed you will need to take the power from the LB into the van, wired via a suitable inlined fuse and connected to the devices or outlets you wish to use.
So to recap, you will need.
1 X LB tray, search the usual Bongo parts suppliers as readably available.
1 X LB, Minimum 85 Ah (approx cost £60-80 ish).
1 X Split charger, these are available on e-bay via Willinton and are the ones used by many members

Just as an extra to the above reply,the Willinton kit comes with instructions and leads to patch into the fuse box so your blinds,radio and interior lights will run off the leisure battery.
