van electric

Post by derita » Tue Jul 23, 2013 9:18 pm

Does anyone know how the mains supply and leisure battery are linked, particularly with regard to the fridge unit which is dual voltage.

If the engine is stopped is it normal to switch to the leisure battery and if so how is this done.
Does the mains isolator need to be in the on position(although no mains connected)?Or will there be another switch some where.

The problem lis in the fact that non of the fridge wiring is easily reached.

It would be really useful to see a typical wiring diagtam.

Every converter uses different kit and wires all the bits up differently. What type of conversion have you got and from which converter? Any photos?

The "zig" unit is a fairly simple Sargent AC 50X which provides switches to the vaious accessories, light, pump,LB state when the LB power is switched through.
It looks as though its wired so that this main switch also put 12v power to the fridge. This is in both the LB circuit and the 240v 12 v conveter. circuit

There must be some were a relay which prevents the converted 12 volts from trying to charge the LB when on mains but can't seem to locate it.
There is a small relay near the LB it maybe that.(Not the split relay)

I want the LB to power the fridge when termporarily not on mains power. This probably means an additional relay which switches the two sources of power or a relay to prevent the converted 12v from trying to chage the LB.

This is why I am trying to source a wiring diagram

Thanks so far

Its a sargent AC 50X which nominally put power to all the accessories.Who ever converted the van uses the units switch to apply 240/12 conveted power to the accessories(When on mains)

This is done by putting the LB in parallel with the converted 12 v. Can't yet find a relay which prevents the converted power from trying to charge the LB?

Hope this provides a bit of clarity

Why wouldn't you want the supply to charge the L/B as well as provide power for the fridge ? That is the normal way to connect things!

I would but as it is set up there is no regulation so the LB would be continuously being charged

Provided the power supply behind the control panel, does not provide more than 14.4 volts then that will be fine, the lead acid batteries will happily float charge for the sorts of periods that are involved, i.e. a several days.
