Fixing awning to the Bongo

Hello all. I'm sorry if this has already been covered but I did have a quick look.
I've got an Easycamp Daytona which I attach to the rail using figure of 8 fixings. But when even a light wind gets underneath it pulls the fig 8 away from the guttering and it drops down, bashing the side of the van. It's got so bad that I've started unhooking it at night to save me going out in the rain to stop the noise. I've tried all ways of getting it tighter and pegging it down with extra guys.
What does everyone else do? Would I be better off trying the suction pads with the pole threaded through? (but I'm sure this would rattle and not make it as watertight).
Or should I try the awning clips (set of four on this site).
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers

It sounds like either the awning is too close, so that there is insufficient tension to hold the figures of eight in place, or you need to actually clip the figures of eight fully onto the gutter.

I used figure of 8 for a while without problems, I wonder if you are actually pushing it onto the guttering hard enough. I found that you need to puch it until it clicks on very firmley. You will know if you have it on correctly as it is difficult to get off.
However I found that if it rained you got a lot of water dripping off the figure of 8, so I actually fitted an awning rail on the roof just above the guttering & that works great and wasn't to expensive as you can get it in plastic now.

Cheers

I have the exact same awning and always use the metal pole that was supplied. Simply slide the pole into the end of the awning , slide it into the glittering and lock in place with the small clamps that came with it. Never moves even in strong wind. Always felt figure of 8 was a little less secure

I have this awning too. I put it up for the first time camping a couple of weeks ago and struggled a little with the best way to connect it to the Bongo. I tried using the rod with a couple of clamps but it wasn't great.

I ended up pulling it tight over the bongo with a guy line. Another Bongo bloke I met at the campsite suggested fixing it to the side of the roof opening using the bracket on the roof and the exposed rail. Anyone else tries this?

I know the figure of 8 fixing is recommended but I'm put off by how hard it sounds to get the thing on and off.

I think the pole and clamps are the best method

I use one full length fig 8. No problem, no drips but the stuff is permanently on the Bongo as too hard to unclip!

I hesitate to ask this as I suspect I'm incredibly stupid....I've just got a driveaway awning from Maynards and was wondering how to fix it to the guttering. I'd decided to get some fig of 8 strip and do it that way....question is - if you leave it on because it's so hard to remove, how can you undo the awning flap to drive away? :?

Sorted, Fof 8 stays on van permanently, this extra connecting strip simply slides out to disconnect van from awning, or line it up and re slide it into place to reconnect awning to van. (Bit pricey, though :( )

I use that as well, didn't pay anywhere near that much, got it from Camperlands.

Help! We have got the figure of 8 strips and can't get them to fit on the guttering at all. Any chance of a photo or a diagram reference from one of you Bongies who have cracked it?

Cheers

I made a diy awning using figure of eight, don't have any probs putting it on, nor any with awning coming free in the wind, but it can be a" beggar" getting it off sometimes.
