Hi

I'm looking at booking at a campsite in France and have the option of either 6 amp or 10 amp hook up.

Excuse my ignorance, but am I right in assuming that the only difference is the number of things you could have running off the supply at any one time or should I definitely choose one over the other?

Yes you are correct it is the load that can be applied before the trip shuts off the power.

6A x 240V = 1440W or 1.4kW

10A x 240V = 2400W or 2.4kW

Before some smart Alec points it out these are approximate because I haven't allowed for the power factor due to it being AC current.

Unless you want to run an electric heater or oven, you'll probably be fine with 6A - plenty to charge a computer or batteries, run a TV or radio. Every appliance should tell you its wattage somewhere, so add them up and use the numbers above.

Difficult to run a kettle or toaster on 6amp.

1/. They're often not what they say
2/. If there are several sockets on one pole, and there are other campers on the same pole, you'll be lucky to run a coffee grinder

Thanks again everyone for your ever helpful advice. I've just re read the booking slip and the difference between the two is 1 Euro a day, so 10amp it'll be!
