Hello Bongo friends,
I am finally going ahead with a full side conversion and should be able to buy soon. This will definitely be the last thing I do to the Bongo so am conscious of getting it right. One of the necessities I think will be for a wider than standard rock and roll bed...

So just wondering if you yourselves have a wider bed or if you can point me towards converters who will accommodate it? I already know of a few who fit a wider bed: Celtic Motorhomes, Wellhouse Leisure, Clearcut Conversions.

From the list of covereters you got there any one of those 3 would be my chose i not got a wider bed as we want more storages we used clearcut as there where the closese to us and like the conversion.
all so got to say like celtic as well all the ones we seen look good of his

Just bear in mind you with a full side conversion, you can't open your fridge or lower cupboards when bed is open. Bit of bugger when you want a cuppa in bed.

well aware of the bed down and fridge not opening conundrum have spent the last year adding cupboards and turning seats around trying to make the layout work with my factory kitchen. am convinced side conversion is the choice for me!

so coffe make in over head locker or get them to fit a top loading frige.

with celtic motorhomes full side leave the cup and tea bag out and if u put the milk in the door of the fridge u can just get it open enough with the bed out to get milk out and have a cuppa

As a minimalist camper I converted to black tea long ago and have stayed with it ever since.

Not only do I not need milk, I can get away with not taking the fridge most of the time. If I don't mind having tea not made with freshly boiled water, I can fill a flask the night before and not even need access to the stove.

That way I can even have a full width bed.

Don't fret about the fridge and lower cupboards being blocked by the bed unless it's really important to have a cup of tea in bed in the morning, in which case, just leave out 2 cups with a splash of milk in them before you put the bed down ! It's not a tough solution

Oh, and Steve, when you get the conversion done, run battery wires to where you want your new solar charger - and run at least 17.Amps cable to the rear, drivers side - for the panel

Turns out I am getting it converted by NMA Cars now, my Dad decided he didn't know enough about car electrics...of course he does but I think he doesn't want the hassle

Re: the post with your bed, yep I was definitely going to refer to that again if we had gone ahead with the D.I.Y build. And re: the fridge...I don't think I have ever felt the need to use my fridge at home in the night. I agree not much hassle to leave some milk out for the morning. Although cheers to others for your concerns here.

I'll be sure to pass on that info about the wires for the solar panel. I don't think I'll get to meet the electrician so hopefully they remember to pass on the info

Oh they are doing me a slightly wider bed at 39 inches. It's not the widest but in the flesh it definitely looks enough for 2 people.

Forget the cups of tea problem the real issue is you lose quite a bit of depth in your cupboards, storage is really sacrificed,

Storage in mine is indeed minimal, that's for sure. To help a bit my seat is higher than most and I have a lot of storage space underneath, but still nothing like this storage I've seen on the regular conversions.

Still, most of my storage requirement is in the fridge

Have just got from the converters. They are making me a removable bench storage unit which is a nice feature. It extends the bed to whole length in the back. Then you can just put it in the roof if not needed, when stationary. Nice touch
