Engine guard falling off and broken.. Can't fix back on!?

Ok....So Hubby is outside on driveway getting increasingly frustrated with the Bongo.....I've been ordered to get help from "The techies"
The big plastic splash guard thingy that is supoosed to fix over the underside of the engine has been flapping around for weeks, We have finally taken it off to have a look and it is split and broken, also most of the screws were missing,
A quick trip to Halfords for replacement screws but now we can't seem to fix it back on as all the screw holes are threadbare...
Any suggestions on fixing or replacing this?
Also, Is it safe to drive without it?
Thanks Guys

It won,t do any harm to drive without it.....you can get one off a scrapper and use slightly bigger bolts after retapping the stripped threads

Excellent. I think it is much better to have it on than have it off. Less noisy for starters.

It does help to catch some of the fuel pump drips.

How true. I rested a rag on mine for 2 years, changing rag when sodden, before I got new seals fitted.

I've been eternally grateful for your pioneering work, Mike.
I followed the advice and fitted a rag as back up for my drip catcher, made from a plastic funnel leading into a 500ml bottle.
The oil eventually gets poured back in the tank (hopefully the filter plays its part in this procedure).
