Is it possible to use aftermarket electric window switches ? Available on ebay for a fraction of the original cost.

Has anyone done this and how hard is it ?

Yep, just been checking out variations on switches on eBay & there are still a couple of cheaper options to be had..?!!

Still a bit of a gamble on a used variation on the part, but mines still going strong after about 4/5 years since replacement? The mechanics & design of em are slightly sturdier too I think...

You will need one of these to interface... http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/27097311 ... =65&ff19=0

Where abouts are you roughly based?
