Engine whine

Our bongo has developed a whine which only seams to be there at tick over. As soon as engine is revved it disappears. Sounds like it is coming from passenger side but not sure where. At first thought it might be alternator or turbo but not sure now. Looks like I might also be loosing a bit of oil. Performance of van seems fine no smoke so looks like oil loss is from a leak.

Just make sure it isn't autobox transmission fluid. Someone put me onto an excellent garage in new mills that knows Bongos. Maybe get it looked over?

in the link below, look at the tensioner pulley for the air con. you can take the belt off to see if the noise stops the bearing usually makes a racket, strip and clean/oil sometimes works, but others have replaced it from local bearing suppliers.

Just had van serviced and all that noise was coming from a blocked engine breather. :D :D not an expensive job.

Get a trigger spray bottle filled with water and (carefully) squirt it over the 3 belts while the engine is running. If the noise changes or goes away then it's a noisy / loose / tight belt.
