bongo tracking?

hi there, dont know if anyone can help me, I have bought some new 15" alloys and set of new tyres (all same size) so i can utilise a normal size spare and swap them round to keep wear even.
I am going to check the front wheel alignment and know the tolerance is -1mm toe out to 7mm toe in.
some people seem to say toe it out a bit to prevent cutting off the outside edge? so just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and whether to set it at -1mm toe out or go parallel or just go centre of spec at 3mm toe in?
any help would be appreciated.

It depends on the ability of the person doing the setup to start with.
Let’s assume they know what they are doing……….. :lol: :lol: :lol:
Personally I set mine with an optical gauge at 0 toe.
Toe out will help with low to moderate speed cornering as it adds Ackermann but will make the steering feel unstable at high speed, toe in reverses these effects. :wink:

Hi,

Both of my Bongos are set at 3mm toe in. Both vehicles are not showing any adverse tyre wear, seem to be even all over.
However they are V6's which are rear wheel drive only. I've been told that tracking is dependent on type of wheel drive a vehicle is. Toe in for rear wheel drive & toe out for front wheel drive. Not sure what would be the recomendation for perminant 4 wheel drive.
I would personally go with what ever the manufacturer recomends.

I set my 4wd to parallel and it showed no adverse tyre wear after 2 years, I am still on the same set of tyres on my new one as I kept the wheels.
Whoever does it should first check what the back end is doing before setting the front as you always set the front to compensate for the back end especially if the back is not adjustable.
A lot of users just set the machine so all is in the green but don't actually know what they are adjusting.

Yep it makes a difference whether it is pushed or pulled. Suspension bushes flex under braking and power, while the rear is (hopefully) fixed the front has to deal with steering changes and castor hence the difference if it is pushed or pulled...... :wink:

Just something to add, first thing to do before any alignment is carried out is a full check of all suspension bushes, wheels and tyres are all the same, no play in any bushes etc. wheel and tyre size does not matter as long as all 4 are the same. You could have 4 rich tea biscuits if you want but 3 rich tea and 1 digestive is a no no.
