Bongo Fury

Hi all,

We're getting some work done on the van soon and want to firm up the rear a little as it tends to bottom out quite a bit. It is a full conversion and we do load it up with bikes and kit when going away, so I'm not surprised if the shocks are having to work hard to be perfectly honest.

The general feeling seems to be that air supports are the way forward - is there anything here I need to avoid, or any suppliers that have been used and recommended?

Hi,its not the shock absorbers that stop the vehicle from bottoming,its the springs you need to get checked.

The shock absorbers work in the other direction (they arrest the rebound)

I had "air lifters" fitted to my suspension to stop it bottoming out. Also check you don't have lowering springs, I had them fitted to mine.
Measure from the ground to the wheel arches they should be about 30". I would recommend fitting them, only drawback apart from the cost, you may need to inform your insurance, some companies don't like them.
The air lifter is basically a bladder inflated to a pressure of your choice that fits inside the spring, it firms up the suspension and reduces the risk of bottoming out. If do you have lowering springs fitted the suppliers can still supply you with a kit to suit.
