So there you have it, a cultural and ecclesiastical tour of Yorkshire. And the cost? Aside from diesel and food, accommodation was nil and the total cost of getting into and parking at the various places totalled less than a tenner, mostly in the honesty box at Jervaulx Abbey. “How so?” I hear you exclaim “when it costs £6.00 just to park at Bolton Abbey?” Not if you get there early it doesn’t

Rievaulx was particularly impressive, and being a Bank Holiday weekend they had a bunch of idiots dressed appropriately with plenty to look at.

With less than 400 miles round trip on that tour, there was loads to see and some nice places to camp too - for free

Thanks for those lovely pictures....Looking at those abbeys just brings it home....the abject poverty and piety of the clergy makes you really feel for those who suffer for their beliefs!

Great pictures and great to see a mention of the corryvreckan whirlpool as featured in the amazing book The Celtic Ring by Bjorn Larsson. Well worth a read if you can find a copy.

Like the pics,Rievaulx Abbey in particular,had a good look round it when I walked the Cleveland Way last August.

Wow, what a lot of abbeys for one weekend! Beautiful pics, makes me think a Yorkshire bongo tour needs to go on my list of places to visit. I've been to Whitby but that's it...

OOOoohhh...I didn't notice that, Crazy, talk about sacrilegious !!!!! ...must be an American owner....It isn't Bulgarian, or there'd be fake marble pillars outside with lashings of gold paint
Still, at least it keeps an ancient trade going!
