A couple of queries re. awnings I would like some advice on please.

I am thinking about getting the Fiamma 45s for van,
What would you consider the ideal length, 1.9 or 2.6 meters.

Also considering hanging it from AVA awning adapter brackets.
Has anyone used these and are they man enough for the job?

As a bye and bye, I have recently bought a full set of mats from Car mats and was pleasantly surprised at quality.
A quick cheap fix if you want a change to interior decor.

Here comes summer.

Ours id the F45Ti and it was 2.5m long, which fits fine, anything shorter would be quite restricting in width. I would have thought that 2.6m would be good, 3m versions stick out over the front and look odd and also apparently suffer more vibration when travelling as its not possible to fix a centre bracket. We used the TW4 brackets they have also been fine, no damage to gutter, no vibration.

Can you please give me some extra info on the TW4 brackets, I can`t seem to locate them on web.

We had our F45Ti mounted using the Fiamma brackets shown below but they bent the gutters and cracked the paint. I have since changed over to a set of brackets which attach to the points under the AFT that I got from Rooster. Not sure if he is still on the forum or making these brackets.

we got the 45s 2.6 but fitted with bridgwater metall craft brackets better (ava and rosster fit the same way just diffent ideas) then the vw one as you can get 3 fixing but note these and the ava ones are for the ATF roof bong etc and if iam right the porfile on a tin top roof is diffent

Just bought a 45S + VWT3 brackets, but they don't seem to fit in to the gutter.

Do they need slight modification?

Some people appear to say they fit others struggle.

The brackets should fit OK, they are a tight fit and you might have to be a bit brutal with them. I did have to bend our brackets a bit but that was only because the van has a Mushroom roof fitted which sticks out more than the standard Bongo roof.

I have drilled through the bottom of the brackets and put a stainless bolt through. This stops the brackets wobbling which could bend the gutter (as already mentioned) The awning is rock solid now.

Hey Briwy, I have seen your bracket pics here before, and am convinced this would be a good idea for me. How hard was it to remove the internal trim? Cheers, Dave

The trim basically just pulls off, carefully.
It's awkward putting the nuts on though as the van is double skinned, (small child would be helpful ) I think I bluetacked the nuts onto a spanner and poked them in eventually.
Sold the van now but after two years no sign of any gutter problems.

If using a small child, don't forget to get them out from behind the trim before you finally fix it...It's bad luck to leave the in there, and they tend to pong after a few months.....
