Hi,
Replaced rad, 5 hose and stat(Mazda one from club shop), flushed system 1st. Refilled as video and bled. Bottom hose hot no bubbles. Heaters hot front and rear. 2 mile run up some hills came home main fans running full bottom hose cold temp gauge normal. Conversation with northern bongolow decided to re bleed. Started bleed from cold bottom hose hot etc. had some some air bubbles but nothing major. 2 mile run again temp normal heaters on, nice and hot got home cooling fans running full again. Any thoughts.
Cheers rob

Hi
It sounds a bit strange, if the bleed was done properly....how hot was the bottom hose?....how long did it take to bleed ? did you need much topping- up while you bled the system?....did you have a little burst of small bubbles part-way through the bleeding cycle?
Cheers
Helen

Sounds like you (the vehicle) has air in the cooling system, did you test the thermostat before fitting?.

Air con is definitely off.
Helen,
It took about 45 mins to get stat open then kept the revving at 2000 rpm on and off for about 30 mins. Bottom hose was hot had to let go after 5 seconds. On the second bleed had small amount of bubbles in one or two drops of the funnel before stat opened then some more when it opened. I think I need to bleed again and watch the u tube and take notes. Doh! Thanks rob

Hi
Regarding time to get the stat open, it really does seem to vary.
Once the stat's open, I find you need to keep going a while to ensure all the air is out, as the stat will open in stages. The bottom hose should be too hot to keep your fingers on for the 5 seconds you quote, and the bleed hose will be skin-burning hot, don't forget, it will be around 90 C coming out of the bleed hose if you've done the bleed properly!...
When you do a post- bleed run, see if you can find a route that you can drive up, then down a short, sharp hill, and run for around 12 kilometers or so!
Let the Bongo cool, and next morning, follow the bleed proceedure when the engine's stone cold...i.e. start the engine, and raise and lower the funnel a couple of times, and you should see no bubbles...if you see more than a couple, then you still have air in!
Cheers
Helen

check the fan switch, the one above the starter motor towards the rear of the head on the drivers side, it has 2 wires going to it, if the grey end is wobbly then it needs replacing, when they wobble the connection between the brass probe and the lecky connection bit is affected, this giives random and or low trigger points for the fans, its in the manual on what resistance readings you should get when you test them out/at room temps. dont fit a copy part for this important piece of kit, gen mazda. this controls all the ecu temp sensing stuff like cold start solenoids and glow plug switching as well as the fans.
£36 from mazda.

I did my own thermostat and bleed - plus a few other bits of tinkering. I don't live too far from you, so if you have any other probs give me a shout and I'll try and give you a hand.

Thanks for that. I think I know where I went wrong, which is when the stat opened I didn't give it enough oomph to open the stat fully, when I was doing it the ambient temps were about 1 oc so it needed a bit more revving.
