2.0l Petrol Heater

I have posted previously about my temperature gauge (it seems to run cold if over 40mph - if stuck in traffic it registers ok)

However - this does affect the heating - if running at a decent speed the heater is like a glow worm, if I am stuck in traffic it gets nive and warm.

Any suggestions - it was just a bit too cold today and no I dont want to spend every winter in a traffic jam.

Are you certain that there is a thermostat in the housing ? I wonder if it could have been removed? Normally done on the diesel to stop overheating whilst its sold :-( But you never know, could even be a failed thermostat stuck open maybe ?

If you've got a post '99 van, check if the summer / winter flap for the heater is set appropriately otherwise you're sucking in too much cold air. See part labelled A in this diagram.

The other thing, have you pressed the recirculating button on the control panel as again, it will reduce the external air flow so you're re-heating already warm air.

Simon

You seem to have been spot on - moved the lever under the bonnet and went for a short drive - I was getting warmth after 2 miles, lovely.

Thanks.
