a shorter bed

Having only tested the bed for a short weekend (side conversion) We found that there was little space when onfolded between bed and front seats.
Because we have a fridge in the front section of the side conversion its not possible to open it without putting the bed away.
Has any one shortened their rock and roll bed.For us the bed is actually longer than we really need and motre space at the front would help
Thanks
Derrick

Have you got a photo of your interior? There are so many different types of bed so it's tricky to advise without seeing it.

Sort of... We custom built our bed at only 5'6" long for the room reason you state. Beware though - DVLA rules state a van classed as a motor home must have a 6' bed - not sure if upstairs can count. You could always have a fold up flap at the end to get around this silly rule. Dodgey (IIRC) had a cutout to go around his fridge - not sure if he could open it with the bed down though.

Thanks for those two comments and particularly the last one.
I have solved it in a slightly complicated way. I wanted the rake of the seat back to stay the same so cut a section from this back portion 5 inches long and inserted an sliding inner tube. This was held at the correct length by two pins. When the bed was unfolded I take the pins out and slide the front base section back. This slides on the new inner tube. When I want to restore the bed I slide the front portion forward and put the pins back in.The bed then restores correctly when slid back.

It can be done
Our old Freda had a Wellhouse conversion and it was possible to open the fridge with the bed out. I don't remember the bed being particularly short but I'm only about 5-10 so wasn't a problem.
Magic in the mornings to get a cuppa in bed.

That's one very short bed!

- the low height of the upright gives it away as well. Mine is just over 6ft and is "just" long enough for me, and I'm 5'10" - I assume you sleep diagonally?
