Rear Seat to Mid seat position?

Post by cardiff996 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi,

I have a R, Reg Bongo.
With Mid converstion cabenet along the side of the van behind drivers seat.

My idea is to shift this so it fits in the rear section of the van.
But I would like to then move the current full width rear seat up towards the front and into the Mid seat position.

I have full runners the lenght of the van.
Does anyone know please if the rear seat will easily move up the mid position on the runners??

Many thanks
Rich

It will slide the full length unless someone has modified the tracks.

Hi,

Yes the seats will slide to the mid position. When you pull the strap on the left of the back of the seat and push it foward it will hit a stop, you then need to look under the right side of the seat where you will see a small metal bar up against the stop at floor level. Lift the bar upwards and push the seat again it will then move foward beyond this stop into the mid position.

cheers.

Why not use middle seats as a single row rather than a rear bench as they are more versatile? The split configuration leaving either a small or larger table flipped over can often be useful.

However, as you already have a side conversion, I suspect that the middle bench might already have moved to a new home!

Thanks as allways everyone, very help full.

My other idea was to look at keeping the kitchen where it is, and cuting/modifing the current rear seats.
This would make them narrow and allow them to be moved up and down the van as required.
Would also make it eaiser to get at the kitchen unit.

Has anyone cut the seats down to make them narrow?
Is it something that can be done by one's self?

Cheers

It's probably more practical than cutting down the middle seats, unless the two seater section is wide enough on its own, in which case only metalwork and no upholstering would be involved (and you've still got it).

Plenty of historical posts on cutting down seats.

Thanks Frank,

The seats I have are one compleate unit and fold back as one.

I will have a look out for a 2nd hand set of mid seats, so I can look to hack off single seat.

Only the backs are separate, but the base looks fairly easy to round off at the appropriate width. Unfortunately, with the seat facing forwards, the alteration would be more visible than if rear facing.

You would have to move the offside rail, of course, and rebuild the seat frame to match the new railway gauge.
