Bongo Fury

Hi all

Well the nice weather has prompted me to get the bongo ship shape ready for resumption of camping duties rather than just being a daily commute.

Not sure if this is the right board as it is techie but more camping equipment techie than bongo specific techie - please feel to move if I've bodged!!

My smev sink is rigged up to an onboard water tank (which I finally managed to unseize the filler lock to this morning!), however when I pump water it comes out of the tap but also out of the unused hot water inlet. There is just a red pipe coming off the tap underneath. The blue pipe coming off the tap underneath is connected to a pipe going to the water tank. Now I have never paid attention to it before so it could be something as simple as that it used to have a blanking thingymibob attached to the red pipe that has come off over the winter or it may be that something has failed inside the gubbins of the tap itself.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You can either block off the hot inlet, (i used a piece of hose sealed at the end then doubled over), or better still, use a Y piece to feed both inlets from the cold feed, this is better as there is no place for water to stagnate then.

I have blanked it off with a short piece of pipe stoppered with a bolt and tape, jubileed at both ends. It's amazing what you can find in your garage when you look - tho I had to nick the bit of pipe from my neighbours garage.

Ultimately I'll do as you suggest and get a Y piece to feed them both, but in the meantime I am now good to go. Yay

I did that with my original smev tap, but the issue was that the red & blue inlets are parallel, and the outlets of the "Y" piece are not, so if it is too close to the tap inlets, they get forced apart causing more leaks. So, either fit it a good 6" or so away, and use soft flexible hoses, or see if you can find a "Y" piece which has the outlets parallel.

Ultimately, the 'spout' bit of my tap cracked, so I replaced the whole thing with a one-inlet cold only tap. No more leaks
