Removing tailgate struts to get them regassed

We need to remove the tailgate struts so we can send them to SGS Engineering to get them regassed so the tailgate stays open with the bike rack on.
Any tips on how to remove the struts and then refit them would be much appreciated. Is it an easy job?
I know I've seen a thread on the forum somewhere about this and I think there was a warning against putting them back the wrong way round - but I can't find the relevant thead!
Thanks for any advice anyone can give us.

It's just a matter of unbolting them.
The main problem is the weight of the tailgate, its extremely heavy so you need something really solid to hold it up when removing/ reinstalling the struts. I don't think from memory that it's possible to get them the wrong way round unless you try to put the body of the strut at the bottom instead of the top.
