Bongo surges when put into gear.

My Bongo (auto, diesel) is very difficult to start, when she finally does go and I put her into gear, she will shoot forwards at high revs. If I let her sit and warm up, she moves off normally. What are the most likely causes for poor starting and surging forwards (or backwards if in reverse)

Hi, what is the approximate idle speed in rpm...?

Sounds like the idle screw may need adjusting..??? (in the blue circle.)

The solenoid thing shown here releases as the engine warms up... A bit like a choke??

The starting issue maybe something different? Can you be more specific with the starting symptoms..?

what year is the diesel.
fuel filter? or banjo filter.
or is the underside of the fuel pump wet with fuel, under the centre?
if its an early model the tps on the top of the pump is acting up. maybe.

Could the cold start idle screw have been set wrong/too high to compensate for all/some of this..? Hence the erratic nature??

yes it could jamie. as you know any of these could affect it.
the weird bit is the surging.
sounds like its either going above the glow plug rev limit, (950 revs) so being turned off/on. or the battery could be low. or it could be sucking air into the system somewhere.

point him to some of your very helpful threads =D>

Hi rochford,it could be injectors/turbo leaking oil into the air intake/inlet manifold Gunged up or even some petrol in the tank.Is there any sign of heavy blue/black smoke at start up.

Good Luck.
