Bongo Fury

Howdy, Has anyone replaced the Bongo driver's seat with an upgrade? Leather, armrests , cocktails, dancing girls?..ignore the last 2 prerequisites. Dave

I am thinking of this....there was a member on here that replaced with MX-5 Leather seats....

Yup, I remember reading that as well. I was thinking about if, as usual thinking and doing never seem to meet, but if theinfo is there maybe they will meet one day!!!

I believe that the one seat is easier to replace than the other.......but which one?

MX-5 seats are used by kit car guys all the time.

I will get around to fitting some at some point....more pressing issues with a rather needy Bongo.

It was me who has fitted the MX5 seats.
I can't find the previous post and assume the guy who started it must have deleted it?

I can't upload images from the computer I'm on now - will do later.

The passenger seat was a straight forward fit. You have to use one Bongo rail and one of the MX5 rails.
The drivers seat was a little more complicated. Again you use a rail from each seat but one of the rails has to be moved. I used self tapping screws but when the garage discovered it they put a spot weld on for me.
Made a big difference to the look and comfort.

The only downside is that the backs to not recline flat. No big deal for me though as my van is converted into a camper.

Franco and me fitted bucket seats from a company in Gt Yarmouth all we needed was some slotted plates to match the holes on the new seats up with the upper runners on the Bongo.

Far better than the standard soap boxes.

Do they turn or do you have to detach and turn around?

Detach and turn round - just takes a few minutes, as the slotted plates have to be changed around.

Please send more details of Gt . Yarmouth company....looks like a good thing to have...

Link here http://www.passionauto.co.uk/categoryli ... ing-seats/ - they don't do those seats now (they were only £99.99 a pair), but loads of generic seats should fit, if you do the measuring and have the adaptor plates made up. Be aware though, that they are not really suitable for people over 6' tall, as the adaptor plates will raise the seat and leave you looking at the sun visor

I fitted a smashing pair of Recaro seats in light grey cloth ...from a Ford-ey sort of tuned up thingey...Cosworth or RS I think....sorry, but I'm not a Fordy fan...anyway, I welded up some rails and popped them in a type 2...they'd look rather swish in a Bongo!
