Bongo Fury

Hi all

Our new Bongo is coming along nicely, front stripped out cleaned etc,wiring sorted but ... Stereo placement!

Let me explain, got a Panasonic stereo, a fairly decent one too, and the empty cubby hole box above. Purchased a BMW clock to fit there, when I removed the cubby hole box it was broken and fell apart but even worse the stereo isn't held in at all! It has the cage but the actual aperture where both items slot into the dashboard has been hacked apart to fit, I think, a double din sat nav thingy in the past.

Ok, any ideas how can I secure things now re the clock / stereo?

If I purchased a double din cage off eBay and fixed that into the gaping hole, will my stereo & BMW clock thingy then fit into the double din cage securely?

Appreciate feedback from anyone else who has come across this annoying problem & how, if at all, you got round it!

Dont thinks o, the double din cage I bought was just a big metal box really, no dividing at all so I stuck an all singing all dancing radio, cd, dvd player in there, before the price of em went mad.

try sourcing another dash from a breakers

Both my Bongos have had the middle plastic cross piece removed by previous owner. You should be able to get both units in fine like this:



If you put the heavier stereo at the bottom it should be fine as long as single cage is fitted tightly.

Yup I have done mine as well, no centre bar, radio with its own cage in the bottom and cubby box in the top.

Agree with the guys above.. A double din cage will serve no purpose to hold two separate single din units in place..

The cage that came with your "Panasonic stereo" should suffice on the bottom part of the double din space by just pushing out the tabs on the bottom & sides & there usually is a bolt hole in the centre of the back of the radio unit with a rubber stopper that fixes to the end?

You may even be able to use a suitable sized nut on the double ended bolt/rubber bung/stopper end thing to secure it to the frame behind the dash..?

The BMW clock cubby 1din fitting will/should snap in nicely & securely above...

The Mazda cubby i have has a spike jutting out dead centre at the back with a rubber end that sits in the hole on the frame at the back of the din space that helps keep it steady when snapped into place..



Though i since fitted another fancy stereo & swapped it round....

Removed the 'cage' then re put in without stereo attached, pushed all the tabs in hard that I could then re inserted the stereo .... Jobs done! All secure and tight and as mentioned the BMW clock clips in above .....

Yay - dilemma resolved .

Fab! Starting to look good too....gong into the camper conversion part today to start cleaning....gettin there slowly!!!!
