Fuel starvation?

hi,
As will become very clear....I am a novice and at the moment feeling rather 'simple' too.

My engine wouldn't start this morning. I turned it over several times until the battery was flattened. Tried again using power pack...to no avail.

Read various threads on forum and decided to check fuel supply first. I loosened off fuel pipes to fuel pump and noticed there was only a dribble for a second or two then nothing. I assume the fuel should be 'pouring out' . Is that correct?

I am hoping someone could give some advice as to what to check etc please.

Petrol or diesel?

If diesel, the injector pump draws the fuel from the tank, so if you disconnect the fuel feed into the pump at the banjo connector, you won't get any fuel out. The only place you will find diesel under pressure is if you slacken off the nut to the pipes that go to the injectors.

If petrol, there is a pump in the tank so if you disconnect the feed to the engine, then there would be plenty of pressure.

hi,
thanks. it seems it's perhaps not fuel but electrical.
I have started a new thread :)
