Bongo Fury

Hi iv got a 96 mazda bongo and the hold light and is smoke first thing from cold and it changes gear hard how can i sort this as in wot could it be

the gears could be a change of fluid.

have you pressed the buttton on the gear change and activated the hold light this will lock stopping it going into top gear.

the smoke could be many things from damp in the morning to bad glowplugs, excess fuel to a cracked head.

what colour is the smoke and how long does it smoke for? does it start easily.

I get a bit of smoke on start up, but it also happens with my diesel car, only lasts a few seconds.
Gear changes can be slightly harsh when transmission fluid is cold but gets much better after 5-10 mins moving warm up.

As above, what colour is the smoke and how long does it last for? You don't state if petrol or diesel engine. Assuming diesel, are you waiting for the glow plug light to go out before starting and have you ever had them replaced? Is it lumpy when first started and the settles down after a few seconds of smoke? Has it always been like it or has it recently got worse?

Its diesel and it smokes about 30 and uneven tick over aswell and the smoke is blue
