Bongo Fury

Gonna take the wife n kids to Snowdon later in the year so I wanna start looking at campsites, any recomendations ?

Depends what sort of facilities you want.

Weve camped in the area for 20 yrs,but the wife likes a good shower and decent loos.

Our two favourites that we returned to time and again are

http://www.riversidecamping.co.uk/ ..this is very picturesque,has a river running thru the site and the pitches back up to the rivers edge so you get a nice relaxing sound of running water to send you asleep. Absolutely spotless showers /toilets,and the adjoining garden centre has a cafe that does breakfasts and meals. Not been here for a few years so not sure of price,but reasonable when we went

http://www.plasgwyn.co.uk/touring-camp- ... snowdonia/ weve spent many a weekend here as well. decent facilities,but the staff are superb and cant do enough for you. you can even order breakfast the night before and you can collectv from the shop at a very reasonable price

both very near Llanberris/Snowden/Ceanarfon/Angelsey and all the local tourist attractions

Hi. It also depends what you exactly mean by "Snowdon"? If it is the wider Snowdonia area and you'll just be sightseeing then there is more choice, but if you actually mean Snowdon the mountain then http://www.gwynant.com/index.html is a fab campsite in a fab location and on a bus route to pen y pass to walk up from (or Nantgwynant for a harder but quieter route (Watkin)).
I also like http://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/wal ... t-campsite which is just outside Beddgelert and therefore has pubs in walking distance as well as being on 2 bus routes 5 mins from starting points up snowdon (the Rangers path just up the valley is a great way up - quiet without the difficult finish of the of the Watkin route).

Enjoy whatever, a great place.

But beware - the Nantgwynant site can be midge-tastic in the summer!
Another one worth considering, with excellent facilities for families and a 'no groups, no noise after 10.30' policy, is Cae Dhu, which is also just outside Beddgelert.

thanks guys great info we're looking at a 4 day break with travelling on days 1 and 4 climbing snowdon on day 2 then chilling on day 3, we will also have the option of staying an extra couple of days if the weather is good

this ones basic but an excellent base for snowdon and close to llanberis (5 min walk)

Also don't forget Bryn Gloch http://www.northwalescamping.co.uk/ in Betws Garmon which is a really nice site. You'll have to drive to Llanberis but it's a good site and the Welsh Highland Railway goes right past.

i can second cau du but beware if dipping in the stream the rocks seem to get very slippy when you have had a drink or six

We had a great time at the Beddgelert site last summer (we even had nice weather). Just behind the trees in this photo is the Welsh Highland Railway, and the site has its own station. The kids loved seeing the steam trains go right past our pitch

Ok guys we had a snowdon planning meeting on saturday evening over a couple of ciders / mulled wines and decided on this campsite http://www.riversidecamping.co.uk/.

Booked it today 4 nights 5 adults 4 kids a dog a Mazda bongo with awning a 4 person tent and a 6 person tent all on three pitches next to each other backing onto the salmon / trout river. reason we decided against Gwynant as lovely as it is, is that firstly there's no leccy hookups ( doesn't bother me but the 3 ladies ) and secondly no fishing on the lake or river and a couple of the kids love a bit of fishing, so thats holiday number 4 signed and sealed for 2013 and its only january

You wont go wrong on this site !. Superb site,spotless facilities (last time we went) and a brill Indian restraunt just up the road that do takeaways
Good cafe on the adjoining garden centre too.
Ive stayed here about 8 times and never been dissapointed.5 mins from Llanberris with supermarket (spar),chippy,chinese takeaway,and the visitors centre, and the start of the Snowden walks,and
central for all the touristy stuff.
