National Bongo Day New Forest Royal Oak Pub Lunch

To celebrate 10 years since the formation of the Bongo Fury owners club, Sunday 24th February 2013 has been designated as National Bongo Day. What we have in mind is a series of events in various locations across the UK & Ireland where Bongonauts can get to meet each other and perhaps have a Sunday lunch.

 It's up in the air at the moment I'm afraid, but if at all possible Kerry and I will be at Setthorns [-o<
Having said that the Royal Oak is so close to home I would probably drop my camper off and cycle back anyway,
only about 15mins across the forest
cheers! party on dudes.

Greetings and thanks for welcoming comments.

There'll be two of us for lunch please, if someone is co-ordinating bookings.
Tell me what time, and I'll be there :)

Looking forward to meeting 'old hands' for top tips and also other newbies like me.
'specially Lyn and Alan from sunny Brighton. We live in cold and chilly Hove actually
Our vans sound very similar - side conversion from Free Spirit Autos, similar paint colours.
Just don't take your van to the car park at Sussex County Hospital where I managed to scrape my roof in the multi-storey car park and then take out the brake light by the A&E entrance #-o
I've only had my beloved Bongo since December and don't usually go around pranging things so Sunday was sad.

I think we'll be camping at Hurst on the Sunday night - any one else likely to be there? It'll be our first overnight, having wimped out on my previous booking when temperatures plummeted sub-zero (yup, I'm a softie southerner)

Cheers all
Sheila

Was about to say 'ooh we're camping at Hurst View' but then noticed that you said you're staying there on Sunday night - we're staying Friday and Saturday night instead as Phillip (aka MrColobus) has to be back for work on Monday :( Look forward to meeting you at the pub though :)

What is the best time to book for?
:-k Mary because of the numbers involved that question may be best answered by the pub,
I would be very surprised if they wanted all the orders at once though, the Chefs head would implode!
Cheers for arranging all this Mary, I shall toast you on the day with a fine local cider

Phoned the pub with the numbers. Any time is fine, but if you want a roast, as soon as possible after 12, when they start food, as they sell out fairly quickly. Other items on the menu are fine.

Agree with you Crazy, ordering over the whole lunchtime would be the best way. Some places ask for a specific time though, but the Royal Oak is happy with as and when.

:D Perhaps that's the answer then Mary
Meet from say 11.30 for a natter and point at each others bits in the car park.
Then peeps who really want a roast can catch a table from 12 onwards
and then anyone else could sit and eat whatever and whenever they fancied
during the afternoon shannanakins (is that a word?)
cheers! party on dudes.

Absolutely a brilliant idea Crazy. That is how it is going to be organised. Meet from 11.30 Sunday morning. Ideal time for those leaving campsites. No problems for those who want to turn up earlier.

Food served 12 - 6 so pick your own time. Coffee shops and a further choice of food available in Beaulieu village. A drive rather than a walk though.

Hello again
Thanks to the great people who are organising this.
I'm afraid I've caused confusion (it comes naturally to me) RedZebraHove and Neil & Sheila are one and the same, so we've been double counted in the food list.
Sorry!

We're hoping to make it, but it's dependant on refitting the insides of the van after a few jobs I've been working on.

Hoping to make it to but we will be enroute from Cornwall to London. I am reckoning on 4 hours from St Just so poss there after 2 - what is the latest people are planning to stay? 1st meet for me and it would be good to put faces to as many avatars as I can.

The pub serves food till 6 and will be open normal evening hours, so it is likely there will be late arrivals and leavers. Some will be camping the Sunday night, plus a lot are very near home so have no need to rush off, unlike an official meet. Much will depend on the weather. If you are coming back the A35, M27 route its not too far a diversion anyway.
