Bongo Fury

What sort of range should I expect from the 2.5 td? I estimate it will be around 300 miles. The Bongo is not being used as everyday transport but as a camper so will generally be used for longer journeys. We will however take it out once a week for say a 30 mile drive just to keep it ticking over.

65 litre tank, though I don't believe you can ever get the last wee bit out. Anywhere from 250 to 400 miles is likely - note your mileage top-up to top-up and work out your average rate of fuel consumption during that tank. Some folk use fuelly.com to track it all.

My fuel gauge doesn't at the moment work so I use 300 normally and 350 if I'm feeling brave but I have got over 400 but not by much.

The great thing about diesel is you can always carry some spare in a jerrycan without too much danger to life and limb, provided there's space.

Ours shows empty after about 250 miles recon fuel gauge has always been faulty. Or we have a smaller tank. Never run it lower to test it but also recon tank in bottom must be full of rubbish on a vehicle that old.

Always about 500km very safely. By this time the light has come on. Anyone got any idea how much you have left that is usable once the light comes on?

What light?

Most don't have one.

Bear in mind that the low fuel light is only fitted to models after about 1999/2000, so if you've got a vehicle older than that, the only light that will come on is the battery light when you eventually run out of fuel .

The low fuel light came in at 1998 or so, S reg late old-shape and all new-shape.

Ours easily does 600km on a tank on a run, I think about 630 was the best we ever dared. But you do have a self-priming fuel system so you can just stick more in if you run out, takes a good few seconds cranking to get it going but should be ok.

We just returned from Skipton to Manchester with the low fuel light on, about 45 miles so there's plenty in there when the light comes on Took 62 litres to fill, so still not empty. Having said that, the wife panics as soon as the light comes on and sticks a tenner in at the first available garage

Wow - 600km. I need to learn to be more economical in my driving. But good to know I've got a fair range even if the light comes on.

What's all this km thing are we in another country.

Some of us still have our odometer in km even though our speedo is in mph

I always zero the trip counter when I fill up as a back up to the gauge.

As said, 500kms/300 miles gives a good reserve.

I've never been one for chancing it with fuel.

I write this waiting at the hospital having had to deliver a family member, not the time to work out where the nearest (open) garage is.

The only obvious answer to the question is..If you have to wonder how far you gonna get from a tank, then perhaps the fuel guzzling bongo is not the right vehicle for you,lol.
