Anti Freeze

It looks like I will be bringing the Bongo back from Portugal in February, so antifreeze is needed. For probably obvious reasons I don't want to play with venting the cooling system for the first time out here with 1500 miles ahead. My plan is to fill the header tank with neat anti freeze then bleed down from one of the lower hoses, and repeat till I have got a few litres in, never letting the level get below the bottom of the header tank.
Does this sound like a safe plan?

Anti freeze does way more that lowing the temperature at which the coolant freezes. It prevents corrosion which is vital when you have iron, steel and aluminium all over the place. The method you describe will work, although a complete drain, flush and refill with 50/50 mix of new anti freeze will be the best approach.

Indeed, that will be done by my bongo garage when I get home but I may have to stop for long enough for things to freeze on the way, that's my worry
