Top hose crunch test for cooling system

Meant to say that when I was at Adrians at Japan Direct in Bury for my MOT recently, he had a quality Wellhouse converted Bongo in and was fitting a new front heater radiator, having already fitted a new main radiator. Both were completely clogged with rust accretion which he said can never be got out properly. Cause was failure to change coolant and antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor at proper intervals. You can often tell if you have a problem by squeezing the top hose. If it feels rigid, squeeze it harder and it should yield with a crunching sound as the rust coating inside it gets dislodged. A useful buyers tip, and if yours does that then I would fit an engine block temp gauge and keep a close eye on it, as you may be well advised to replace radiators before chronic hot running leads to other trouble.
