I was wondering if mine had this - I have looked through old posts and entered my VIN into the Russian site (and used google translate to help). Mine is listed as having LSD's but was wondering how I could tell if these have been replaced? is it something that would or could have been done? Novice's guide or advice would be much appreciated.

Unlikely to have been replaced. Its a fairly major job. Not sure how you can tell on a 4wd drive. On my 2wd its quite obvious. Take it down a rough track with loose gravel or a muddy patch and you can feel the rear wheels scrabbling as the LSD engages and disengages. On a 4wd it could just be extra grippy. On the Russian site mine is listed as LSD, ABS sunroof and driver airbag. All accurate and present.

if you jack the back end up and slowly spin one wheel the other rear wheel will spin in the opposite direction with a standard diff, or will spin the same way if its a limited.
with yours being 4wd you may have to lift one front wheel up too to allow for the vc to engage.

I read somewhere a long time ago that a "yellow Jap sticker" was a dead give away with the LSD too....??? Though it may be obscured by alot of filth & udersealing...?

I've also heard about the yellow LSD sticker thing. There was a link recently to the various recalls Mazda did over the years and there was one for a problem with the rear diff/prop shaft. Guess what they did to confirm it has been checked? They stuck a yellow sticker on it #-o, so probably don't read too much into anything that has a yellow blob on it.

Yes, I was told by an experienced Bongo owner that the yellow spot meant LSD but mine has the yellow spot and according to Russian site it is a standard diff.

I now believe the yellow spot means recall job done but could still be wrong.

Hi
Yes, there have been a number of recalls on the Bongo. I wrote to Mazda regarding one relating to the front propshaft, and I have the paperwork still...somewhere...The recalls were corrected by Mazda, and marked with a yellow blob....SOMETIMES...but they were recorded, and I was told mine had been remedied according to records...but no yellow paint mark...
I can't be sure that they still carry records for the older Bongos still, as that would be at the discretion of Mazda, as I believe agreement between most major vehicle makers decrees that they will only be obliged to carry spares for a given model for 10 years after production has ceased, and I suspect records are treated similarly....HOWEVER, various owners clubs have ensured that the records are garnered while still available, and historical records are available for many a classic. I had no trouble getting parts for my 30 -odd year old Type 2...some NOS parts were even available!...but then, they made one or two more VWs than Bongos  ...many still around!
Cheers
