Accelerator switch

Can anyone tell me what this does please?

Image

Its an adjustable microswitch fitted on the accelerator pedal on our drive by wire diesel. The actual variable resistor controlling the revs is the black bit at the top on the left.
The pedal has a lot of dead movement before anything happens and unscrewing this switch means the pedal is a lot more responsive.
However, doing this to get the pedal to what I consider the right position, the glow plug and Hold lights start flashing so I have set it back to it's original position until I know exactly what it's function is.
Still trying to find out how to alter the tick over speed as well.

just a bit of a guess brian but it looks similar to whats fitted to the end of the older model throttle cable, the little solenoid switch. it MAY detect the position of the throttle pedal when on the warm up cycle. when its warming up it takes the peddle off you so allows the glow plugs to light via the ecu etc. when its warmed up it gives you the pedal back.
see what happens down there during the warm up cycle.

Yes I reckon that must be it Ady, it's got a fairly long throw on it and that would tie in with it making the lights flash when I backed it off. I'll investigate a bit more.
