Bongo Fury

Just got a dud one so I'm going to change the lot while I'm at it rather than wait for another one to go.

Looks like NGK don't do the long ones so has anyone got a recommendation out of the two compatible ones listed which is the best. How do the compatible ones last, I don't want to be changing them every year.

If neither of them are much good then I'll fit the short NGK ones and bend the bar to suit, shouldn't be too difficult as I've removed the EGR pipe and gubbins completely.

No idea Brian but there must be some good ones around. My Bongo is still running fine with the original long glow plugs that it came over from Japan 6 years ago still fitted. Seems that if you can lay your Bongo up for a few days it would be best to remove the dud glowplug and see if it has the makers name on it.

Hi,you cant go wrong with ..Beru..Bosch or..Denso, but like most glow plugs and spark plugs you can get duffers straight from the box.

ive just fit bosch short ones, they seem good.
just a thought brian, the distance between your pipes and the link bar looks quite big, i bet you could fit little plugs without any problem.
the difference in height between long and short is about 10mm, just see if the rail will stand a 10mm -15mm drop and still clear.

Ady, yes I think it will be OK with the short ones. They seem cheaper than the long ones as well and at least I know they will be reliable.

The ones in are ND, can't find any reference to them here in the UK.

If they have nd they most likely to be Nippon dense plugs if this helps

Fitted new NGK short ones without a problem, just bent the rail slightly, starts a lot better now.
I was very surprised at how long the glow plugs stay energised after starting up. I had a voltmeter connected across the rail and it was around eight minutes before the power went off.
So easy with the EGR pipe removed.

do they turn off brian when the revs are increased----- over 1000. then revs off, do they come back on etc.

Dunno Ady, I'll try it and see. If they don't I guess it will be the sensor that's up the spout.

Ady, no, revving makes no difference. They went off quicker this time though, about 4 mins. Think I'll leave it alone for now as it all seems to be working OK.
