Bongo Fury

I have a 2002 diesel Bongo & noticed yesterday that the headlights stay on even when the ignition key is removed from the ignition. Is this normal? (on all other cars I have had removing the keys only leaves the side lights on).

Seems a bit daft - good way to flatten the battery very quickly

I've never owned a car that did that.... (Modern Ford thing?) The Bongo is actually the fist i've owned with a lights on warning sound too....!

So does this mean that's how all Bongos are - lights on even with key out?

Mine does .. and the brake lights stay on .. I noticed that when my Staffy sleeps in the drivers foot well ..!!

Its a Mazda thing!!

OK - many thanks all. One less thing to worry about - although have so far managed to flatten the battery twice and I don't really know how yet . . .

Doesn't yours have a warning buzzer that sounds if you remove the ignition key with the lights on? I never had a car more modern than that.

Remember many people completely disable the Sound Warning System buzzer, rather than disconnect just the thing(s) that annoy them. I doubt that anybody tells buyers what they did, mainly because they will have forgotten themselves!

My '03 Transit did it as well....

It was a bit eerie walking back to the bus and seeing the brake lights coming on by themselves .. !!

Why not wedge something behind the brake pedal to stop Staffy turning them on...??

Great ... until I forgot to remove the 'brick' ...!!

Then make it uncomfortable for the little staffy to sleep in the drivers side.....?? There is always the passenger footwell....

The only cars I know that have always had the sensible option of ignition off = ALL lights off are Fiat/Alfa/Lancia/Ferrari Group cars.

If you want to leave the lights on for parking etc. you have to press a catch and turn the key backwards.

On my Transit only the headlights go off with the ignition, the sidelights stay on.

I remember a few years back when my (then) teenage daughter had a Fiat Uno (with no handbook) ... we thought it strange that there where no parking lights .. it was more by luck than judgement we found the push button by the ignition switch ..!!
