There is this document http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/tiin/new-clause-fuel-duty.pdf
see the last entry in the table on the second page that indicates
current 0.3161£/Kg going up to .3734£/Kg that is a rise of (0.3734-0.3161)*100/.3161= 15%
From 1st Jan 2013, this is the delayed tax rise from August this year.
Oh and unleaded petrol is going up by about 5%.

The average round my end is 75.9. So we are looking at about 10.75p going onto that.

Effin joy unbounded...... :( :( :(

That means petrol rumbles up to about 140 - 143 per litre.......even worse.

Good old rip off Britain ...

I'm sure I've some money somewhere that can be taxed twice over again.....

Where's the exit?

Do you LPG users really expect the current subsidy to carry on for long?
LPG at the moment enjoys a massive artificial concession on the rate of duty over other road fuels - the Govt. is looking for ways of raising money and anyone getting away with paying less than anyone else is an easy target.

One of the reasons that LPG is much cheaper is that it's v.low on emissions. Also the gas is a 'happy' by-product of petrol production!

I suppose that if petrol goes up in tandem then it still balances out a little.

Remember the big push and subsidy the previous govt had on converting......

Still, it remains cheaper than petrol, runs cleaner resulting in cheaper services too.... :D :D On our last bongo the 2 services we had, the mechanic thought the oil was only a few months old....not 12...! :D

So, even though its a kick in the plums it's still cheaper than running on petrol alone.

Strange that this 'price hike' is similar info that the diesel /petrol heads was putting around when I had my Toyota Emina converted ........... about six years ago ... !!

In my experience price hikes are par for the course with LPG - when there's a 1p-2p petrol price rise, LPG can increase by 5p-10p.

There may be a link between the cost and production of petrol and LPG but I can't see how it can be justified that LPG can be so disproportionately more expensive to produce than petrol. Of course LPG price hikes may be due to a lack of competition in the LPG market where you can see 15p a litre price difference between petrol stations on the same road.

There won't be a hike in veg oil. It's classed as a food stuff and already liable to a level of VAT.

It's only where you reuse old cooking oil, and use the bio-diesel/oil kits where it's filtered and had other chemicals/diesel added to be turned into an outright fuel. Then it's liable to about 45p per litre in duty.

The kits are about a grand plus, but think of the savings. A mate of mine wallops donkeys and his horse box costs a fortune to run on diesel. They clubbed together and bought a kit. Think it paid for itself in about 3 months between the four of them. :)

Surprised there isn't a bio diesel syndicate on here to be honest. Then again, it probably wouldn't be some thing I'd advertise.

I think the biggest problem with using waste oil is that Mr Big is moving in on the market, and supply is a lot less than potential demand. I'm afraid that quality vs. quantity is the choice we will ultimately face with driving mileage, in a world of soaring fuel prices. Bongo syndicates anyone?

The reason it is cheaper is that only half the tax and duty is charged on gas than on petrol or diesel - so when the price of the product goes up (as opposed to the tax and duty) that rise is a higher proportion of the price you pay.

10% on half the cost is twice 10% on 25% of the cost.

Just been and topped up my LPG 55.5 litres .. £39.41 (@ 71p litre)..

Chatting to the same guy who has filled my gas tank for the last 6 years or so, he had not heard anything about a Government tax increase but did say that through the winter with LPG domestic heating supply / demand it may go up Dec / Jan .. but over the years I had already noticed that myself ...
