I've seen a lot of Bongos with aftermarket steering wheels, although I'm not sure if they originally had air bags fitted. Might be worth checking with your insurance company first as removing a safety feature could have implications with the policy.

Quick search for Momo (who make steering wheels) brings up a few threads that may be worth a read:

Hi
One thing occurs to me... if you replace your airbag wheel with a non-airbag model, you may have some insurance issues...We have a pre-airbag model, and it's a piece of cake to replace. The boss kit I bought has instructions for modifying to re-use the airbag on a suitable aftermarket wheel which can take airbags
Cheers

Hi
I can send a copy over, no problem, but will the airbag fit in the new wheel ?.....or are you ditching the airbag?.....PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send a scan...BTW, go and get yourself a quick-release boss (they bolt between the boss kit and the wheel)...A huge deterrent for all except the thief-with-a-truck, and I bet most "nicked" Bongos are a drive-away! I sourced a corker of a wood-rim wheel to go with the dash...SOOOOOPERB
Cheers
Helen

If you are replacing an airbag wheel with an aftermarket one, you might have an issue with wiring the horn back up. If you don't, please let me know how you manage it.
