Bongo Fury

not entirely sure how this passed its MOT especially as i said "I think the exhaust is blowing a bit" - anyway, I was underneath doing some waxoil topup and noticed this.

Which bit is this? it looks pretty corroded and I'll get bongobill to fix it for me - but what is the name of this bit? and is there anything I should do until I get it fixed? I imagine it's environmentally unsound but it won't break anything

If you can find anyone with a finger-full of gungum or similar, you could probably patch this easily enough.

Looks like you've got a four part exhaust, with the winter warming baffle bit. The front section is split in two, so you're looking at replacing the "second front section", eg like this one.

Alternatively, you should be able to just get the front section of a three-section exhaust to go from manifold to center section and remove the baffle bit altogether and plug the vacuum hose (comes from solenoid under the passy seat). I'm not 100% on this re: relative lengths of the front section(s), but a search on here should throw up an answer.

For what it's worth, get some spray on those nuts now, and repeat! I replaced the first front section on my van, it was a hell of job, scraped knuckles, pumped forearms, and all that.

I've had some recent similar problems with the 4-part exhaust on my winter-warmer bongo. You can get these small connectors but I had two and the flanges were not constructed properly so will not sit flat against the winter warmer exhaust valve. I had to go to my old system and get this part off and fill the hole (split along the welded seam in the pipe rather than the flange) with thermo steel and a pipe bandage. I was told that people were not producing these parts again as they were so difficult to weld up (I had two that were faulty). I would recommend dumping this pipe, the valve and the short front pipe and replacing the lot with one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-F ... 1e737b559f to turn it into a 3 part system and blanking off the vacuum pipes. I will do this too once my summer fix breaks - it should fit looking at the lushprojects diagrams!

thanks both! Hopefully will have it fixed. I use the bongo for skiing so the winter pack is useful - although, saying that, I've never needed to use it it in anger!

does anyone know where to get a stainless exhaust system fitted in Scotland (or anywhere in "the north")?

I was looking up some old receipts and the centre bits of that exhaust have lasted exactly 18 months. I guess because of the salt on the roads here plus the fact that I go skiing a lot.

I'm thinking of just replacing the whole lot front to back and really there are two options:
a) see if I can get a stainless exhaust... (I've found a place in Hayes, Walsall - but they are a long drive away)
b) just buy a "mild steel" one and use high temperature paint on the 2nd and 3rd sections...

any ideas?

through the power of search, I think there are two solutions:

• MIJ single, get them to send it up to scotland

• Powerflow - there is a local dealer which I will contact tomorrow...

local powerflow guy is going to do this but life is never easy. My van has the mazdaspeed sills on it and he only has a 2 post lift so I'm going to have to try and get them off this weekend!!!

He is going to leave the front section and then put a stainless system from the first flange and then to the back.

I got a stainless Powerflow exhaust added to the Bongo from a local powerflow specialist* looks really good and the bongo is driving really well. They had done a bongo before and are really happy to do more. They removed the winter warmer pack and left in the downpipe from the engine attaching the stainless part from just after the bend after the 3 bolt flange at the bottom.

will add photos tomorrow when I put the Mazdaspeed side skirts back on.

ive run powerflow on my last 3 motors------------they build what you want. cannot fault them.
