driving without front propshaft
hi all bongo fury , have still got a problem with the bongo drive train , and am wondering if there is a link in the forum that could be posted to driving the 1994 turbo diesel auto with the front propshaft removed if this possible or wether more has to be removed than the propshaft the on going problem is (to try and describe what is going on) that when driving the bongo it judders at the front badly and makes a noise that is not metallic sounding but to attempt to describe the sound would require to stretch the imagination to what a washing machine on a spin cycle with its drum full of tennis balls would sound and indeed probably also feel like if you were sat on said washing machine while this went on , the nearside outer cv joint was changed as it seemed to start there the offside joint was inspected and its boot replaced along with both the front roll bar drop links using the correct type specified for the bongo not aftermarket alternatives from different vehicles neither of these has fixed the problem and I need to find or do something that gives a positive direction to pursue in diagnosing this problem suggestions advice etc would be much appreciated our local reputable garage that also does the mot changed the joint as it proved to heavy a job for my toolkit though I managed to change the rollbar droplinks myself with not too much difficulty

There is a fact sheet in the member's area describing exactly how to do this, which may shed some light. There may be threads on it too if you do a search, the fact sheets tend to be more concise and are created after consensus on the best methods is reached.

go on youtube and look at video's on how to test your viscus coupling, using a bar on the back wheels and a weight, it should drop the weight in a gradual speed, to fast and it locks. then move on to jacking one front wheel of the ground, then the other this will show if the front diff is at fault or the vc.
watch out if your bongo has a limited slip rear diff fitted.

Check that your props haft u/j joints are not seizing up or are seized...unbolt and make sure they are moving free and are not sticky/lumpy

Sorry if this is daft, but are the front wheel/tyre circumferences the same as the rear? An odd non-mettallic sound could be the tyres jumping.

Re: driving without front propshaft
have checked diff oil level and found it to be spot on , however have had a good look around and am pretty sure the problem is the bearing in the outer end of the front offside axle casing , the inner cv joints outer casing is flopping about all over the place so is the bearing replaceable whats involved and has anyone done it
