Bongo Fury

Hi all - I'm curious to know how the factory fitted rear kitchen is wired up regarding charging .

There must be some beefy cables running to the alternator/starter battery? (I'm surprised I haven't seen these cables behind the N/S rear panels when doing solar installs on Bongos - unless they are using quite small cables).

I assume also there will be a charging relay somewhere? or is the LB charged independently?

I've never looked closely - I just assumed they plugged into the 12v socket at the back

I seem to recall there was a diagram or manual in the Fact Sheet section which may shed some light on it.

None of the wiring is that massive in a Bongo! The capacity of the kitchen unit battery is also quite small, I've not seen it its capacity quoted anywhere but from the size of the battery its not going to be anywhere near the capacity of a typical L/B of 90-120Ahr.

I installed one into our last Bongo, thread on here somewhere with pictures.
The battery is normally situated in the kitchen unit itself and the leads from the mains charger to the battery are quite substantial. The actual wiring from the Bongo to charge it with the engine running I'm not sure about as the Bongo already had a leisure battery fitted in the usual under bonnet space with a split relay charger so I just ran big cables from the kitchen unit to the LB. I don't think the wiring is there unless it's a factory fitted unit.

According to the following link, the main fuse on the unit is 30A, which would suggest the battery / charging wiring would be rated at a higher value.

Iirc, doesnt the standard kitchen, have a button that you press to make it charge the battery inside the kitchen unit? as in its not a split charge system til the buttons pressed? and they dont use big cables just slightly thicker and with bigger cores. rip it all out n replace it all!! lol

Under the kitchen there is a 'Kyocera Multi Battery Charge Controller'. Apparently, this controller only has enough power to charge the battery that's in the kitchen unit.
