Not too sure what it is but it certainly isn't normal. It sounds like it's the drive not taking up properly, rather like clutch slip on a manual box. Check the colour of the gearbox fluid, it should be red. If a dirty brown then change it and it could solve the problem.

You probably have a limited slip diff (yellow label on casing). Try changing the diff oil - GL 6 required - available on ebay (Lucas oils 75/90 SYNTHETIC gear oil ,audi bmw alfa kia).It stopped the judder on mine after exhibiting the same symptoms as yours. It is not the auto box.

Juddering at anytime is not normal on any vehicle. Denotes something wrong, clutch, gearbox, brakes if you have just bought take it back until it does not judder.

Does it do it all the time or is it more when the engine/ gearbox is warm.?
If it is when it is warm its sounds to be the same as mine was doing. The juddering is actually the wheels skipping and causing the judder to come through the vehicle.
Try changing the oil in the Diff, seemed to work for me.....
