basic oil question ?

Hi Ill be doing my first service at the weekend i am still unsure of what oil to get, i have read loads on here about it but many different opinions,

can some one just tell me what oil to buy from euro car parts or GSF, or halfords and a link would be nice

Recommended is 5W/30, but I've always used 10W/40, which is what most garages use and is readily available at reasonable prices. Just make sure it's suitable for a turbo diesel engine.
As for brand, just take your pick - they all come to the required standard.

I use 5w 30 for better lubrication and mpg on short runs.

Back in the good old days there was oil. Now there is oil for diesels or not for diesels - whats the difference?

Over the last 9 years I have found Lidl's oil to be fabulous, it was recommended to me and I find it great, especially as I do a change every six months.

Detergent added to diesel oils.
