auto gearbox replacement

My auto box has developed milky fluid; I'm told this is caused by water getting in from the oil cooler in the rad. A complete strip down and rebuild plus a separate oil cooler is recommended by my local auto box specialist. This will cost around £2500. Can anyone suggest any alternatives that may be cheaper. I'm told by the auto box specialist that auto boxes are not available off the shelf because they get water vapour contamination from the air? Can anyone enlighten me or suggest a good auto box specialist that I can talk to.

Ouch, that's a bummer. Got to be a case of trying breaker I'd have thought? Bellhill maybe? Or Northern Bongalow (Ady) knows of one in Yorkshire, maybe PM him?

The gearbox cooler for the tranny fluid is built into the bottom of the cars water cooling radiator ..
For my Omega gearbox service I used these guys in Cannock several years ago and found them to excellent .. .. after dropping the auto box sump .. removing cleaning the valve blocks .. 'nipping up' the brake bands etc: even letting me watch as they worked ..
