cylinder head test and skim

I need to have my cylinder head checked and skimmed, and have been told that the valves also need to be machined to maintain the clearance with the pistons. Is this necessary?

i would get a report done on it first, unless you know a man :) .
do a hot pressure test, as the crack/s may not show up on a cold test.
the answer to your question i suppose would depend on how warped it was, the bongo has very little room between the valves and pistons, and if the head needs a lump off to flatten it again there is a fair chance the cam pedestals have also lifted especially on the centre ones, this may need line boring to rectify.
this work would surely be half way to a new head price (if you dont know a man).
in the years ive been on here i have never heard of a successful skim up job on a bongo, when they go they usually crack. but ive heard of several who have skimmed and come to regret it later.

not trying to put you off but go into it with both eyes open, especially if relying on a 3rd party repair.

good luck.

Thanks for your time. I've done some research and agree with the idea of being safer than sorry, especially considering the size of the job and the increasing ammount of time it's taking.
So I have decided to fit a new head.
Thanks again,
Mick

What caused it to go in the first place?
