Bongo Fury

Has anyone fitted daylight running lights to their Bongo? I want to fit decent LED daylight running lights to my V6 and wondered where the best place was to take power for them when the ignition is on?

Hi. I took the power from the radio, using its fuse as a back up too. I've got mine switchable so can be on or off.
Mine are Ring daylight running lights.

Co-incidentally, that's the next job on my list.....there's one or two sellers on e-bay offering a neat switcher which allows the DRLs to power off the ignition live, and it switches them off when the main lights are turned on...however, I'm wiring mine to go off when the sidelights go on, as I have non-Mazda headlights
I reckon to trace a wire off the ignition switch.

All DLR's by law are supposed to either dim (LED versions) or if in headlights using bulbs (extinguish)
The Police can enforce this and obviously the LED DLR's must be E marked (many are not). Luckily (perhaps) the current government have slashed Police spending and the likes of DLR LED's are getting away with it.
There are modules for these, the LED ones connect to Live and Earth at the Battery and to the side lights.

I had some LED DLR's but they suffered water ingress and ruined the reflector, I removed them and fitted a module I got from Germany.
This module uses the dipped headlights only like the VW Polo and T5 vans when the ignition is armed....... (It could also be used with angel eyes in some headlights I guess or on a Bongo using the fog lights (fit in the DLR position range) with a lower(ed) wattage bulb in them) ......
When the light switch is operated the lights all work as normal(side,head and main beams) and the DLR dipped headlights then extinguish.
The DLR headlights will re-light when the light switch is turned to off and then extinguish when the ignition is turned off. You can put a switch in-line as an option too so you can select whether you want the DLR module to operate or not.
The Germans(near to other countries borders) fit the module to save €50 fines for not being lit up in DLR compulsory countries.
Currently, DLR as aftermarket fit's are not covered by the MOT... BUT....and there always is a BUT.... in 2014 expect them to be as this is when the first MOT's for factory fit DLR cars to be tested and if the owner has disarmed them the vehicle will fail the MOT, expect likewise with aftermarket fits too.

I'll try and look it up..They are excellent, and it saves getting stopped and fined on the spot. Mine are e-marked, and so bright you have to look away...absolutely no missing them, and unlike headlights, which can appear to be just catching sunlight, theses are dazzling, and low current consumption in comparison.
The units do require a bit of fiddling to wire the switch in, but they dim when the lights go on perfectly.

If your vehicle is fitted with a leisure battery with a split charge system incorporating a Voltage Sensing Relay ,there is no need for switches. Simply take your DRL feed from the VSR output terminal and earth..

Sorry, I can't find the details of the switch unit at the moment...I'll have another look tomorrow...They are worth having, as they dim the DRLs when the headlights turn on, as I think the law requires it (not sure on that though)

I noticed that the new osram and Phillpps have auto dimming at night. Which would fix this problem as DRLs only need to be dimmed when lights are on and comes with the e stamp

I've bought the Philips DRLs, and whilst they are a bit pricey, if you do fit them , you'll notice the difference...they're absolutely blinding, and easier to spot from a distance, so DEFINITELY worth the money. There are plenty of cheap look-alikes, but they may not be E-marked, and the Philips ones also have a certificate of conformity which must be stamped by the fitter (i'm sure you can get around that)...so if you're stopped, the cert. will show compliance, and so will the lens covers!

SIMPLE.

Wouldn't work with something like the very popular Willinton kit as it as it only has three connections:

SB+
LB+
Ground

Wiring it to LB+ would result in the DRLs being on all the time and also would not dim when the dipped beam is switched on as they are required to.
