Fitting a volt meter for less than £5

I wanted to fit a spare volt meter I had so I could keep an eye on my battery as I only have the one.
Bought this from Ebay

I wanted to fit it but didnt want to cut the dash
As I use the BMW clock thingy for storge I decided to fit it in the rear of this
Measure twice, two cuts in the back and crefully trim around the sides to make a hole
Try it for size file it out to suit.
If you look carefully in the picture you can see an on and off switch, the meter is wired to the live for the clock so would be on all the time, so it can be turned off with this switch
Heres the switch, just measuyre this before you buy as it looks to be the same one, its the same supplier

Just check the size.
Oh before any one asks, took it to work and checked it on a calibrated volt meter its accurat to 0.01 volts so fine for us.
Some one on Ebay based in the uk sells them for two or three times as much and claims his are more accurate?
Loads of people on a VW forum have fitted them when I posted this and all have been spot on.

Its a good project for inexperianced people as its quite easy too
Cant buy many useful gadgets for under £5

Did you fit a fuse,or is the Clock supply fused.

Clocks fed from the permant supply to the radio so its fused

I did see them but hogs the cig lighter and I dont think it looks as good, the one I have used looks good in camper units to monitor leisure battery

I use these on projects too. Not put one in bongo just yet, still looking for a good place to put it, although I would need a switch on it because the leisure battery is 'always on' and this would drain it...

Switches in the link are £1.80 for 3, take about a month to arrive though.
Took me ages to decide a location as I dont like cutting the dash etc and I needed to save a space for the engine temp gauge

I just use an ON /OFF/ ON switch to switch between the two batteries.
Something like this,make sure the rating is OK.
